This is my first blog entry. I seem to remember that "Blog" is a shortened form of "web log." To celebrate this useless bit of trivia, I'm creating a new term for the purpose of this blog. This is a blog to cover our weekly walks in hopes of losing enough weight so that we can go on a hike up a mountain without dying.
I thought of several different versions of shortenend words that would work. "Bwalk." "Bweightloss." "Bwork Bwalk Bproject."
And after a lot of thought as I wrote that last sentence, I've decided on "Our Weekly Walks in Hopes of Losing Enough Weight So That We Can Go On a Hike Up a Mountain Without Dying."
Not bad for a first blog entry.

Shape Up to Eat Out
And so today begins, officially, the RUN-AMC (Run, Alex, Mike and Christian) initiative here at The College of Westchester. As announced by Michael Sandick, our occasional weekly walks have now been made into an official, goal-oriented office mandate to strengthen our resolve and tighten our belts. Having only recently gotten my belly back to a comfortable place (I mean, come on, who doesn't like having a constant pillow to carry around?) I was initially disappointed by the idea, until the new slogan, "Shape Up to Eat Out" was added. Now that's an incentive I can get behind. While the idea of losing weight to gain it back seems a sort of circuitous pattern, I'm willing to give it a shot, so long as I have some say into what eateries we use for the Eat Out part.
When it comes to exercise, I'm more of a sit-on-the-couch-and-watch-people-in-movies-do-outlandish-things-that-will-surely-be-good-for-their-figures-whilst-I-eat-cold-meatballs-and-drink-beer type of guy. This walking thing... well, let's say I'm at the least a novice. And not necessarily a willing one. But here we are, tasked with this challenge and so it shall be met, even if only briefly so, like a long-lost child of a distant unknown aunt met at a family reunion that you promise to keep in contact with and then always mean to but never quite get around to calling.
This blog will track our walking (and eventually hiking) adventures and make sure to memorialize any participants who fall casualty in the pursuance of health, wealth and weightlessness.
